St. Peter's wants to keep you informed.

There are many things happening at St. Peter’s, and new activities, events and opportunities are popping up all the time.  To keep you informed of these happenings, we have set up a parish communications tree.

The communications tree has two major branches: e-mail and telephone.  You may join whichever of these branches best suits your needs. Joining the e-mail branch means that you will receive a weekly e-mail message (usually on Thursday) with the announcements that will be appearing in the bulletin on Sunday.  You will also receive a special e-mail message whenever we have critical news to share.  Joining the phone branch means you will receive a phone call from a fellow parishioner and may be asked to call a few others in turn.  The phone branch covers only urgent special announcements, not the regular weekly list.

We urge everyone in the St. Peter’s family to join one or the other branch of the tree.  To join the e-mail branch, follow the instructions below. To join the phone branch of the tree, look for the sign-up list in McCray Hall or contact Linda Irwin or the church office.

There are more details on the communications tree further down on this page, below the forms.

More information about the announcements list:

What about people who don’t have e-mail?

The weekly email announcements are the same as the ones that appear in the Sunday bulletin. Anybody who wants to be notified of critical events but does not have ready access to e-mail can sign up for a phone tree that will provide the same information.  Contact the parish office at 540-338-7307 to join the phone tree.

Will I receive a lot of e-mail if I join the list?

Normally you will receive one message each week with the full set of announcements for that week. In addition there will be occaisional special messages, but these have been running fewer than one a month.  However, since this is a new feature, we’ll have to experiment a bit to see exactly what sorts of things people want to see sent out on the list, and which things are best communicated in other ways.  Different people have different interests, but our intent is not to flood the list with too frequent messages.  If you have been on the list for a while, let us know if you think we’ve struck the right balance.

Also, the list is set up so that only authorized members of the parish staff can send messages out. This will not be a forum for interactive discussions (we are setting up other places for that) nor should it ever be subject to junk e-mail (spam).

Will my e-mail address become public information if I join the list?

No.  Only the webmaster and possibly some of the parish staff will ever see your e-mail address. Other people on the list will not. We promise not to take any address used to subscribe to the list and use it for any other purpose, or pass it on to anyone else, without your express permission.

May I subscribe with more than one e-mail address?

Yes - for example if you want to be receive our announcements both at work and at home, feel free to fill out the subscribe form above twice. Note that you can only fill in one e-mail address at a time on the form.

How does the list work?

An automated agent maintains the list of e-mail addresses for us.  You can start or cancel a subscription to the list by filling out the forms above. You will receive an e-mail message confirming the change.

What if my e-mail address changes?

That’s no problem. All you need to do is to use the forms above to unsubscribe your old address and subscribe with your new address.

If you have any other questions on this list, please contact the webmaster.
