Ongoing Support

Mental Health:
Each month a group of volunteers from St. Peter’s, the Community Outreach Group, takes men bowling from several group homes This group provides fellowship to the mentally challenged of Western Loudoun. An average of 25 men and women join us for these outings.   In addition, in May and September we have a picnic in front of St. Peter’s and in McCray Hall.  We also throw a Christmas party for the group. The group really enjoys getting out and socializing with others.  All are welcome to join in, especially at picnic time.  Contact person:  Charlie Little.

We continue to provide financial support to A Place to Call Home which provides housing for persons living in Loudoun County with mental illness. Our goal is to expand this ministry to provide “hands on” opportunities to welcome and form relationships with individuals with mental disabilities in our midst.   Several parishioners serve as Representative Payees who handle the day-to-day financial affairs of individuals who are unable to manage them on their own.  Contact person:  Pat Pearson.

Builders/Contractors at St. Peter’s:
This fund is intended to provide a more hands-on approach to helping the community with the resources and talents we have at St. Peter’s.  In 2006, the bulk of the funds were used for repairs at Good Shepherd, Bluemont.  In the future, they may be used for Habitat projects or for our own parishioners in need.

Cropwalk:
St. Peter’s participates in the annual walk each fall.

Home Delivered Meals:
St. Peter’s has many volunteers delivering meals to the homebound.  More volunteers are needed and welcomed.  Contact person:  Pat Pearson.

Thanksgiving Together:
Thanksgiving Together is an annual event at Bethany United Methodist Church.  This ministry has been a focal point for a Purcellville Christian effort to provide a meal and fellowship on Thanksgiving Day for those in our community who live alone or are otherwise in need.  A coalition of local Churches including Bethany, Harmony Methodist, Round Hill Baptist, Blue Ridge Bible, St. Andrew’s Presbyterian, and St. Peter’s Episcopal, provide meals for over a hundred people in the area.  Parishioners provide sweet potato casseroles, setup and cleanup services, meal delivery, and fellowship for our community.  Contact person:  Judy Hall

Missions

Mission Trips to Biloxi 2006-07
In October 2006, Doug and Monica Gill departed for Biloxi, MS to join with Beaverton Foursquare in rebuilding houses damaged and destroyed by Hurricane Katrina.  Doug has been overseeing construction and Monica did case work, assessing and identifying those in need.

In April 2007, St. Peter’s sent 16 parishioners to join the Gills.  They helped finish several homes and were rewarded to witness the dedication of some of those homes and the families moving back.  (see trip pictures here)  There is ten year’s worth of work left to do in the Gulf Coast and St. Peter’s wants to continue to lend our support.

Mission Trip to Pine Ridge:
Each July a youth team of missionaries gathered from several local Episcopal churches travel to the Pine Ridge Indian reservation in South Dakota.  If you have a child in high school who is interested contact Cathy Little.
