Every Sunday we gather for the liturgy to lift up our hearts to God, together with countless Christians around the world.
We join with "angels and archangels and all the company of heaven" in pouring out our adoration and gratitude to God. It's this shared love for God and dedication to his service
that unites us together, with all the other saints on earth and in heaven.
Because of this love we do what we do every day, week, month and year at St. Peter's. And
what fine fun it is! We have a good time together. And as we live and work together and love each other and serve God our lives are being changed to more resemble Jesus, in his
love and humility, in his truth and purity, in his strength and serenity.
Worship means giving to God what he is worthy of receiving. It is our
highest calling and, when you love God, our greatest pleasure in life. It is also something that Christians easily view as an optional activity in the course of their day or week.
Somehow the duty and delight of blessing the God who blesses us sometimes gets bumped aside by busy schedules and more pressing
and urgent matters. No wonder people's lives are so out of focus. No wonder Christians are so apt to drift with the swift moving
currents of our culture. No wonder churches experience so little of the world-changing presence of God.
I don't want that for you or for our parish. I want us to be a people who experience fully the joy and wonder of the presence and power of God and the transformation of our
relationships that results. All this begins with knees bowing and tongues confessing the glory of God in our liturgy. Won't you come and make it the center of your life? God is worthy.
